Shoulder of Mutton - Harrogate country pub!

Wow wow wow, where to start?🤤🤤

I was blown away by how delicious this was! As a little date night, me and my SO decided to find somewhere out to eat in Harrogate as I’ve heard lots of great things about the food options there.

We came across this little country pub and saw most of the menu is and/or can be made gluten free. They also offer smaller versions of the main dish at a cheaper rate, which is perfect for someone like me who struggles to eat everything when I go out for food with big portions!

We both ordered the shoulder of mutton, which we assumed this is what they’re known for due to the name, and both got the smaller dish and we both also wanted to try desserts afterwards.

The food was absolutely gorgeous. Beautifully presented too if that’s something you’re into (hint hint, great insta pic worthy if that’s your thing). The meat was so tender it melted in my mouth. I’m drooling just thinking about it!! The dauphinoise potatoes was very creamy and tasty. The vegetables (this came with carrots, green beans and broccoli) were perfectly cooked, especially the carrots which were just the right amount of soft! The gravy it came in (also gluten free?!?!) was delicious too. The smaller version was the perfect size as I still felt quite full afterwards, and even struggled finishing the dauphinoise potatoes.

For dessert, I tried a scoop of the rhubarb ice cream (sorry again for lack of picture…I devoured it before I even realised I forgot to take one!). This was so refreshing and tasty!! It came with two little chocolate sticks. My boyfriend had the sticky toffee pudding which came in a caramel sauce (and would usually come with vanilla ice-cream but he asked to have salted caramel ice cream instead). This was also gluten free by the way! He even let me have a little nibble and I will definitely be getting that next time we go back as it was so moist and…you guessed it…tasty!!!!!

The staff were very lovely and friendly. I had a sauvignon blanc wine from New Zealand which I have now discovered is one of my favourites…

Overall, would definitely recommend this place, whether you’re gluten free or not as the food is exceptional. I will definitely be going back. Very well-reasonably priced too. Also, as a note for those who are veggies – they did have a couple of options on the menu for this too.
