You'll have to excuse the awful photo skills going on with the picture for this post as I had taken this way before this blog was made but now that I've moved house I've been unable to go back and take better pictures.

Growing up my mum would occasionally cook us an amazing home made curried mutton. Although I am the biggest wimp when it comes to spice, I'd always suck it up for my curried mutton because god damn, it's tasty as heck. When I got diagnosed with coeliac it seemed like most Caribbean/Jamaican/Jerk takeaways had gluten in their mutton (some didn't know and surprisingly some didn't even know what gluten was!? not sure how they had a food business, but moving on...). So finding a gluten free option with Jerk Kitchen was amazing!

The Gluten Free "Classic Chicken Wings and Niblets"

First Impressions

The first thing I saw and was impressed with in this takeaway was that they actually have listed on their menu what is Gluten Free!!! I'm not sure about those reading this but I've found it so difficult on Just Eat to find places that tell you what options are gluten free. Vegan and Vegetarian seem to be very popular but hardly a word about GF (mega frustrating!).

So I ordered the curried mutton the first time, and although, yes there was a bit of a kick to it (like I say, I am a wimp with spice), it was absolutely delicious. The meat was so tender and tasty, the carrots were soft and literally melted in my mouth. It didn't come with rice or chips so the only downside is you have to order extras if you want something for the curried mutton to go with.

With the chicken wings I was very surprised that they were gluten free as a lot of places don't offer this. They were marinated well and were extremely tasty, along with the chips being great.

Pros and Cons

I noticed that maybe they have different chefs each time because I've ordered from them numerous times and sometimes it's absolutely amazing and sometimes it's seemed a bit rushed. I have only had the carrots in the mutton the first time I ordered, and since, there hasn't been any in. The meat has always been tender and gorgeous! The spice level definitely fluctuates each time, sometimes blows my head off a bit and sometimes completely tolerable and tasty. The curried mutton comes boneless (which I love) and for the money you pay, I'd personally say you get a great amount as they're not tight with the meat at all. As mentioned above I'd say the only cons for the mutton is that it doesn't come with any rice+peas/chips/etc like a lot of places do, and the last few times I had it the carrots were gone.

With the chicken wings, I've always found them tasty. Only once have they turned up cold (which I'm not sure if that's the restaurants fault or the JustEat driver). They come with chips and a dip and you have the option of getting a 4, 7 or 15 piece. The chips were great the first time I ever ordered but after that they weren't. I went with the BBQ dip (yep, gluten free!) and ended up using my own sauces for the chips as I found it didn't have much taste.

The Final Score

Overall, Jerk Kitchen have a great amount of Gluten Free options which are well labelled on their Just Eat page. I've never really had a big problem ordering with them and delivery times have always been pretty on point. They were my go-to for Caribbean food when I was living in Nottingham and I'm for sure going to miss the mutton! Decent prices for the food you get, so I cannot complain! (not 100% sure on the chips and the BBQ dip but the rest is frigging lovely).
